Mahjong Lesson & Open Play

Interested in learning, or already play?  We have something for everyone!  All proceeds benefit LiveWell Greenville’s work to increase access to healthy foods and active living opportunities.  Light refreshments, including wine and beer are included with both tickets. Both events are held at the Rupert Huse Veteran Center, 770 Pelham Rd., Greenville, SC 29615.

Interested? Both the lesson and open play will take place at the same time, so register for the one that best suits your level of play. Brand new to Mahjong, or do you need a detailed refresher? Choose the lesson. If you’re newer to Mahjong but understand the rules and game flow, choose the open play session.

Mahjong Lesson – $50 (from 6:00-8:30pm)

Learn the basics of American Chinese Mahjong from several local experienced players. Instruction will include explanation of the suits, how play flows, the score card, and dealing. There will be time to ask questions and play a few practice games after instruction. Instructors will teach play using blanks.  Class is limited to 32 people, so register now!

Mahjong Open Play – $25 (from 6:00-8:30pm)

Bring your friends, or make new ones in a welcoming environment for a great cause!  A moderator will be floating around on site for any questions your table may have about play, rules, etc. Space is limited to 24 spots.

Mahjong Beginner Lesson
Want to learn mahjong? This class is great for people who have never played or for those who haven't played in several months and need a refresher. Learn the foundations of American Chinese Mahjong, terminology, tiles, and how to deal. There will be time at the end to play a few games, guided by experienced players. Included in your ticket are light refreshments and a selection of wine, beer, and soft drinks.

Official 2025 National Mahjong League Card
We will have limited quantities of the 2025 NMJL cards available. New players will find this to be a helpful keepsake from the event. Cards are offered in partnership with our office neighbor, The Jewish Federation. Both large and small cards are available.
