Tournament Rules, Scoring, and Format:
- Prizes awarded for overall winner, highest points and lowest points (after first round), and a special event line.
- NMJL rules will be followed, which means blanks are not automatically included (see below).
- For tournament tables that collectively agree to do so, blanks and extra jokers will be available for an optional $100 buy-in donation (per table). This add-on is available online in advance for a full table registration and on tournament day for full tables and individuals (before play officially begins).
- Tournament will follow the 2025 card for scoring. Bring your own 2025 card. Limited quantities will be available for sale from the Jewish Federation.
- Traditional tournament scoring rules will apply including +25 if you win a line with no jokers, -10 if you throw a tile that gives an opponent Mahjong, etc.
- First round of play: each table will have 2.5 hours to play up to 8 total games. After 2.5 hours or 8 games, whichever is reached first, scorecards will be collected and tallied. The 4 highest scorers will move on to the championship round for a sudden death game to determine the overall winner.
- In the event of a tie during a first round game or the championship game, the NMJL rules will be followed.
- In the event of a tie for qualifying for the championship round, and more than 4 players qualify, all top players with the top 4 scores (up to 12) will be included in a sudden death final match. All qualifiers will play 1 game (players will roll the dice to determine who is East, top roll wins). At the end of that game, the top score will be declared the overall winner. If there is a tie at the end of the sudden death, the first player to declare Mahjong will be the overall winner.
- All other prizes (highest score, lowest score, event line) will be determined based on the results of the first round).
- The event line winner will go to the first player to win with the qualifying event line.
