On Sat. April 9, 2022, a dream officially became reality as the Feed & Seed Food Innovation Hub opened in the Judson Mill. As a longtime partner of LiveWell Greenville and the Food Security Coalition, Feed &Seed shares our strongly held belief that everyone deserves access to healthy, local foods. Feed & Seed partners with local farmers, wholesalers, and other organizations to close the gaps in the processes that help move food from local farms to local tables.
The Feed & Seed’s storefront and innovation center have something for everyone. At the systems level, Feed & Seed is helping farmers glean more product, which can be processed locally and distributed to partner organizations. As Mary Hipp (Feed and Seed’s Board Chair and LiveWell Greenville Leadership Team member) has said, “Some perfectly good food never gets eaten. It might be because a farmer cannot afford to harvest the entire field without a confirmed buyer. For our farmers, we provide great security to invest in producing marketable products where they have a comparative advantage in the industry while providing more local produce for our community.”
At the personal level, you now have even greater access to fresh local products including produce, small-batch specialty products (like sauces, herbs, and pimento cheese), grab-and-go meals that are plant-based or vegetable-forward, and delicious café offerings. The market is open on Tuesday-Saturday from 8:00 am – 5:30 pm and the café serves from 8:00 am– 2:00 pm.
Congratulations to the entire Feed & Seed Team on your grand opening. We look forward to seeing all that you will do to change the landscape of local food in the Upstate!
