Act Now – Workplaces

According to “Creating a Culture of Wellness in Workplaces,” an article in the Nov./Dec. 2005 edition of the North Carolina Medical Journal, the average employee spends 50 hours a week at work and eats one-third of his/her meals at work. Because of this, wellness programs in the workplace have great potential to impact employees’ long-term lifestyle choices. (source:  www.thedukeendowment.org)

Employers that do not currently provide wellness initiatives can support the health of employees by starting small.  Providing fruit in breakrooms and planning a walking campaign are small scale efforts that can get your business moving in the direction of promoting healthy eating and active living.

With the growing network of bike lanes and trails in Greenville County, now is a great time to encourage your employees to bike to work, during lunch or for running errands.  Consider becoming a Bicycle Friendly Business (BFW).  How do you become a BFB?  Click here for more information and find out who else in Greenville is a BFB.
